Sound Project- reflection

Sorry, I've been MIA recently, I know. My time-management skills are definitely a... work in progress, let's say.

I do have some new content for you though. Recently in AICE Media, we did a Sound Project, which basically consisted of telling a story using no image, strictly sound. We could use pre-recorded sounds from different databases but we had to include at least 4 foley sounds, which is basically the reproduction of everyday sounds using different techniques. 

For this project, my partner and I actually had some issues coming up with a story with enough sounds at first, but we ended up settling for a story where a girl goes for a run with her dog (basic, I know, but listen, its hard to come up with a story that can be told simply by using sounds okay!). Initially, the idea was to record everything from the girl leaving her house with the dog, getting in the car, and driving to the park, but not long after there would be a weather change and it would start raining and the girl would fall. But... the video could be no longer than 2 minutes, and all the compilations of these sounds together were well over 2 minutes.

So, we had to do the best we could with what we had. So the story changed: now, it would be about a girl simply taking her dog to the dog park, which worked out perfectly because we were able to keep most of our ideas from our outline (which I have attached a link to at the bottom of this post), and now the story fit the time limit.

Recreating sounds using Foley was DIFFICULT! It definitely seemed simpler than it was to execute it well, which was a struggle for us, especially because we didn't have a lot of time or room for mistakes, but we made it through. The final product came out okay. It could've been better but we did the best with what we had at the time. I'm sure that at the end of the course, if I look back at this project I will probably notice a lot of things that could've been done differently, but that's a part of learning!

Camera Shots quiz- reflection

 Hi Blog! Here's a reflection/evaluation on the "Camera Shots quiz"

For this activity, we were instructed to choose an inanimate object and create a story based off of it. We had a limit of 15 shots we were allowed to use for the activity, and some techniques/shots were required to appear in the story.

At first, my partner and I brainstormed ideas to see what object we would use and what the storyline would be. After a while, the idea of making the story based on a water bottle that gets lost in school after its owner forgets the water bottle in the courtyard, which leads to the water bottle being put in the "Lost and Found" and feeling like an outsider. Ultimately, the owner goes after the water bottle and they are reunited. We approached this by first seeing what type of shots we were required to have within the story, and after having those decided, we came up with the other shots.

I think overall the project turned out well, taking into account that we only had one class period to do it. The story was well-developed, but it took more than half of the time we had to come up with it, so we could improve our time management skills.

Introduction post

 Hi everyone!

My name is Clara and this is my first time writing a blog. I'm not sure what blog posts are supposed to look like, but I'm hoping we can figure it out together! I'm creating this blog because of one of the classes I'm taking this year, AICE Media Studies, which is actually a lot more enjoyable than I thought it would be! I'm excited to see where this blog goes, and who knows, maybe I'll keep writing on here after graduation!
